Android Malware Ransomware

There was a time when hackers had to write their own scripts and create their own malware and ransomware to hack smartphones/computers. But time has changed nowadays hackers use Trojan Development Kits (TDKs) to create malware without any good knowledge of coding.

Symantec employee Dinesh spotted an Android-based application that can be used to create some really serious Android Malware. The developers of the app automated whole process of creating malware through CASE (Computer-Aided Software Engineering) tool.

The app can be a great tool for wannabe malware authors who want to create their own ransomware apps. The malware app is widely available in Chinese hacking forums and social networks. The app is completely free to download and the user can see the customizing options for free. However, to generate malware hacker will have to pay a one-time subscription after that he/she can create as many malware variants as they desire.

Options available for customizing include:

  • Displaying message on the locked screen of the infected device
  • The key to be used to unlock the infected device
  • The icon to be used by the malware
  • Mathematical operations to randomize the code
  • Displaying animation on the infected device

If someone accidentally installed the malware into his/her device the malware will end up with a locked device held to ransom. The Malware uses an automation process follows the typical Lockdroid behavior to lock screen of the device.

The whole process can be done without writing a single line of code. Currently, the app is available in Chinese languages but it’s just a matter of time that soon different language versions will be available.
