A quarter of the respondents predicted robots will become part of everyday life in just 11 to 20 years, with 18 percent predicting this is going to happen within the next decade.
Both Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking have been outspoken about their fears of artificially intelligent machines. The SpaceX and Tesla CEO (pictured) last year described AI at MIT event as our ‘biggest existential threat’ and likened its development as ‘summoning the demon’.
According to Geek.com, speaking at the Zeitgeist conference in London Stephen Hawking said: “Computers will overtake humans with AI at some within the next 100 years. When that happens, we need to make sure the computers have goals aligned with ours.”
Musk recently described his investments in AI research as “keeping an eye on what’s going on”, rather than viable return on capital.
“With artificial intelligence, we are summoning the demon. In all those stories where there’s the guy with the pentagram and the holy water, it’s like – yeah, he’s sure he can control the demon. Doesn’t work out,” said Musk
“I think we should be very careful about artificial intelligence,” Elon Musk said, answering a question about the state of A.I. during the MIT event. “If I were to guess at what our biggest existential threat is, it’s probably that…. With artificial intelligence, we are summoning the demon.”
